The first of September is a very important day not only for schoolchildren and students but also for everybody who is involved in educational process: principles, deans, teachers, curators, associates of educational institutions. That is why everyone, who thinks that Knowledge day is one of the most important events, has gathered in the assembly hall of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University.

First year students were the most honored guests of the concert. For them it was the first time that they enter the University in a new status - a student. The rector of the TSPU Valery Vladimirovich Obukhov opened the celebratory program with greeting words:

«Dear friends! I congratulate all those present, as well as the entire staff of the oldest pedagogical university in the east of the country with our common holiday - the Day of Knowledge! Traditionally the main words of congratulation are addressed to our freshmen. You guys were lucky to enter the best pedagogical university of the country: according to the rating of the international agency QS, Tomsk State Pedagogical University is the third among the universities of the BRICS countries, which is 40% of the population! It was not at all easy to enter Tomsk Pedagogical School. And you know this better than anyone. I am very glad that your new life begins with such great success! Student years are the best, the most interesting, the most romantic. We will do our best to ensure that you finish our university with a full luggage of knowledge. You will be proud of us, and we will be proud of you. I wish you, friends, success in your studies and personal life. Hurray to the new academic year!»

Vice rectors and deans of the TSPU told students about opportunities of the extracurricular activities and creative troupes of the University have greeted freshmen with the dancing and singing numbers. Then there were conversations in the narrow faculty circles: the deans and curators of the groups from among the students of the TSPU met their students and shared the specifics of the training at their faculties.

In the afternoon, all the freshmen met in the Teacher's Park to pass the "Tomsk Route" quest. Guys were divided into groups and followed the city route, studying the streets and sights of Tomsk, finding the curators of the TSPU and carrying out their assignments. More than 300 people, 10 competing teams, seven stations and only one and a half hours to overcome the path: despite the bad weather, the positive and eagerness to win helped the participants to cope with the task. Time was the main yardstick of victory: the three fastest teams were awarded with gift sets, which are sure to be useful to every student living in a dormitory. In addition, as part of the "Tomsk Route" was an additional contest for the most original team photo. Sweet prizes were given to creative first-year students of 2018!

The «Curator school» for students willing to help freshmen has opened at the youth center of the TSPU. On the first day 50 volunteers have participated in workshops «Mentorship» and «distribution of priorities in time». After that students have made teams to learn how to cooperate with each other. Finally, the future curators have met with the chairmen of the student council. Together with them students have discussed the proper ways how to treat freshmen.

According to the tradition, on the first day of autumn the students, teachers and workers of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University mark their professional holiday - the Knowledge day. For the freshmen it is also a special day and the university will grant a very warm reception for them.

The holiday will begin with a concert that takes place in the assembly hall of the main TSPU's building (Komsomolsky prospect 75):

•  at 11.00 for students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Faculty of Arts and Culture, Faculty of Psychology, Public Relations and Advertasing;
• at 13.00 for students of the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry, Faculty of History and Philology, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of preschool and primary school education, Faculty of Technology and Entrepreneurship

At 15.00 for foreign first-year students of TSPU the annual quiz "Tomsk routes". The students came from other cities and countries will participate in an exciting adventure filled with sports and intellectual games and contests, new acquaintances. The contests will start in the Teacher's sqqare of the TSPU (60 Kievskaya street). In the end of the contest there will be a picnic and award ceremony. NOTE! Sport clothing is higly recommended. 

Teachers of the Youth center for educational robotics of the TSPU have conducted workshop on assembling and programming of the spin-toy robot. This educational workshop lasted for two hours. Under the guidance of the skillful teachers kids and their parents have assembled a spin-toy robot, programmed it to do different actions and witnessed astonishing drawings made by the robot.

«Spin toy robot is made of plastic plate with a several holes of different diameter cut in it. A set of circles goes in this holes, and since both holes and circles have notched edges so the parts won’t slip», - told the associative of the center. The robot can draw beautiful geometric figures and working on this robot people learn math and programming methods.

The admission campaign to full-time educational programs had ended. Applicants from almost all the regions of Tomsk will be enrolled to bachelor and specialists program on budgetary basis. The most popular area per number of applicants has become the city of Tomsk – 101 applicants, Tomsk region – 21 applicants, city of Seversk – 17 persons, Kolpashevo region – 10 persons, Asino region – 9 persons.

Besides, the TSPU is awaiting first-year students from the Kemerovo Region, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Khakassia, the Republic of Tyva, the Altai Territory, the Republic of Altai, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, the Novosibirsk Region, the Omsk Region, the Republic of Buryatia, the Irkutsk Region, the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Sakhalin Region.

99 persons have entered our University on the basis of target admission – it is almost 30% of students who will study on the budgetary basis. The average point of the United State Examination estimated to 64.6, the highest result was among the applicant who applied for the Faculty of foreign languages – 80.7.

There were 5 persons who applied for the study in the TSPU without examination. They are winners of various competitions. They will become teachers of history, Russian language and literature in elementary classes.

The final stage of the annual project of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University «Summer in the city». During this summer students-activists from the TSPU have organized and conducted five sessions on the streets of Tomsk, playing with children. More than 700 children have already visited 32 playgrounds of the project this summer. Cultural and educational program was extremely rich: students have organized workshops, quizzes and sports games for children and told them about the volunteer movement. Together with children TSPU students have gone to the virtual trip on the Russian cities, read kind books and watched movies. And on Tuesday the mayor of Tomsk Ivan Klein have met with the leaders of TSPU student engaged in «Summer in the city» project.

Vice rector on academic work Voitsekh Sleshinski and professor of history Evgenii Mironovich from The University of Bialystok (Poland) have paid a visit to the Tomsk State Pedagogical University. On the 9 of August the members of the TSPU management have met with the Polish delegation. During the meeting the prospects for coopertaion in the field of scientific research were mapped out and agreements in academic exchange of students, postgraduate students and teachers  were achived.

Last week the Tomsk State Pedagogical University held the XI International Conference "Quantum Field Theory and Gravitation" in course of which authoritative scientists from more than 20 countries of the world discussed modern achievements in the theory of gauge fields, supersymmetric quantum field theory, string theory, higher-spin field theory, gravity and cosmology.

On 9 August, a conference on modified theories of gravity was held at the University of Nagoya. At the conference, a well-known expert in this field, professor of the TSPU Sergey Dmitrievich Odintsov, made a speech from TSPU via video call.

In the interview to Tomsk television company, one of the key scientists of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Sergei Dmitrievich Odintsov have answered the questions about the recent international conference «Quantum field theory and gravitation» held in the TSPU as well about theoretical discoveries in physics and death of the Universe.

Last week, TSPU hosted a number of important scientific events. TSPU professor, theoretical physicist Sergei Odintsov, in collaboration with a colleague from Greece, has created a model showing the possible death of the universe. Scientists have shown that the singularity of a dynamical system is not always identical with a physical one. "We found out that singularity can not arise, and then the universe can evolve for an infinitely long time. But for this, it must be described by alternative gravity" Odintsov said. A singularity is understood as the state of the universe, when all the parameters describing it, in particular, curvature, gravitational field intensity and energy, are equal to infinity. Calculations show that the death of the observed world can occur in 30-40 billion years.

In addition, about one hundred scientists from 20 countries of the world who arrived at the TSPU to participate in the XI International Conference "Quantum Field Theory and Gravitation" shared their discoveries in the field of theoretical physics.

The11th International Conference "Quantum Field Theory and Gravitation" was held at the Tomsk State Pedagogical University. The scientific event was organized by the Center for Theoretical Physics of the TSPU were scientists from around the world discuss the fundamental problems of theoretical physics within the scope of this traditional conference.

The conference is devoted to the modern achievements in the gauge field theory, supersymmetric quantum field theory, string theory, higher spin field theory, gravitation and cosmology, the theory of physical processes in external fields.

The conference gathered specialists from Moscow, Dubna, Protvino, Kazan, Chernogolovka, Tomsk. Foreign participants came from Australia, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Poland, the United States, Japan and other countries.

Scientific communication takes place in the library of TSPU (66 Herzen Street). The international conference will end on August 4, 2018.
