The Institute of Childhood is a young subdivision of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University, created in 2020 on the basis of the Faculty of Preschool and Primary Education and the Faculty of Arts and Culture. The Institute trains specialists who work with children of preschool, primary school age, teens, and youth.

The main goal of the Institute of Childhood is a comprehensive (transdisciplinary) and deep scientific approach to the study of childhood problems.

Today we:

— teach students to work with different children using modern domestic and world developments and technologies;

— create conditions for the professional and personal growth of the future teachers and give our students the opportunity to try themselves in different educational spaces;

— study phenomena of childhood and factors influencing the effective organization of this age stage;

— interact with other educational organizations, employers, alumni, parents, social partners

Great focus is given to the study of pedagogy (history of pedagogy, general pedagogy, preschool pedagogy, pedagogy of primary education, pedagogy of artistic creativity), psychology, including the psychology of art, the basics of musical, choreographic and artistic art, methods of teaching various subjects in elementary school and implementation of educational areas in the field of preschool education, methods of teaching organization and leadership of a choreographic collective, methods of teaching music in educational institutions of various types, methods of teaching fine arts, methods of teaching the history of cinema.

By mastering various subjects and passing different types of practices (educational, research, technological, pedagogical, and others) students help children with different capabilities, behavioral characteristics, mental and physical health. Our students learn to organize different types of children's activities: play, educational, project, research, creative.

Students of the Institute of Childhood regularly participate in all-Russian and international Competitions in pedagogy and arts.

The educational process at the Institute is organized by four departments:

Currently, the Institute of Childhood implements 13 educational programs for bachelor's and master's degrees.

PEDAGOGICAL EDUCATION: LIFE SAFETY COURSE

The level of education is corresponding to the federal state educational standard of higher education. Required study of modern technologies, including educational ones, within the disciplines: "Information technologies in education", "Technologies of food processing", "Technologies of mechanical processing of materials", "Technologies of sewing production", etc. allows graduates of the faculty to work not only as school teachers but also as technologists and managers in the sphere of public catering, sewing, and woodworking production. At the same time, the curriculum has a variable (profile) part, that gives students an opportunity not only to choose activities but also to expand and (or) deepen knowledge, skills, and competencies in basic (mandatory) disciplines.

By mastering the "Safety of life" course students get knowledge about different measures aimed to protect individuals from the consequences of accidents, disasters, natural disasters, weapons. In the process of training, students study the disciplines about comfortable and safe human interaction with the technosphere, adopt principles and methods of protecting the population, methods for reducing the risk of an emergency caused by the human fault.

During the lessons, students develop educational and practical models and methods for organizing and eliminating emergency situations, organize and participate in the implementation of medical evacuation measures, sanitation, and anti-epidemic measures, as well as in the provision of medical and sanitary requirements for emergency rescue and other urgent work in a zone of emergency situation.

After graduation, our students can work as teachers of life safety at school, college as well as become an individual manufacturer of clothes, furniture, and applied arts or organize technological work of small business. An educational internship is carried out on the basis of specialized educational institutions, structures of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: ARTS AND CRAFTS AND DESIGN

Students study the psychology of personality, engineering and computer graphics, the history of arts and crafts and design, drawing, painting, plastic anatomy, computer design, the basics of design, the fundamentals of management and marketing in the field of artistic creativity, general technology, materials science, etc.

The graduating student will have an opportunity to teach arts and crafts at colleges, schools, and other organizations as well as to works as designers, technologists, constructors, managers at craft enterprise of design, beauty saloons, tailoring shops, etc.

The academic internships are conducted on the basis of leading companies of the Tomsk and Tomsk region.

Term of study: 4 years (full-time study); 5 years (an extramural form of study).

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: RESTAURANT BUSINESS

The TSPU has been offering a restaurant business course since 2013 and it was the first university in Tomsk qualified for such an educational program. Students study service theory, organization, technology and equipment of restaurant enterprises, standardization and certification of high-quality biologically safe products, functions and principles of enterprise management, pricing strategy, marketing, basic concepts of healthy nutrition opportunities for the industry development, etc.

Graduating students will get an opportunity to fulfill organizational and methodological activities in educational institutions of the food industry, as well as to participate in innovative and organizational activities in the restaurant business.

Educational internship and work experience internship are conducted on the basis of professional educational organizations, as well as on the basis of successfully operating public catering enterprises.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: TRANSPORT

Growing demands and the needs of the population in the maintenance of vehicles have caused the high developing rates of service education. In this regard, the training of bachelors in the field of vehicle services and road safety has become one of the prestigious areas of professional training. Graduates of the Transport course will be able to work at educational institutions that implement educational programs of secondary professional and additional vocational education in the sphere of the motor transport industry. The educational internship is organized on the basis of automobile sales centers and units of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Traffic Control. PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: REGENERATION AND REPRODUCTION OF FOREST RESOURCES

Forest resources are considered as a competitive advantage of Russia, providing it with a strategic advantage in the system of world economic relations. Therefore, the ways of realizations of the existing potential of the region are the central issue in the development of the timber processing complex. Siberia has the world's largest forest resource base, in this regard, the main goal of the regional policy in the timber industry is the implementation of competitive advantages through the preservation of quality, improving the efficiency of natural resources use, the depth of processing of forest resources and reducing the negative impact on the environment.

Tomsk region is one of the regions of Siberia, which is rich in forest resources and has scientific and production potential and experience in training of professional personnel capable of solving the modern professional problems.

Special features of the TSPU's facilities are research laboratories and the scientific and educational center "Folk Crafts of Siberia", where research works are carried out to revive the traditional and master modern art crafts and technologies for processing and reproduction of forest resources.

History and achievements

The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports was established in 1949 and is the oldest beyond the Urals among similar faculties. For 70 years the faculty has prepared more than 4 500 specialists in physical culture and sports. Among the graduates of the faculty are outstanding sportsmen and teachers.

The contribution of our students to the sports achievements of Russia and the Tomsk region is significant. Among graduates of the faculty are the honored masters of sports, Masters of sports of international level, Masters of sports of the USSR, and the Russian Federation:

Honored Master of Sports, Champion of the Olympic Games in Turin 2006, Honorary Citizen of Tomsk N. Masalkina-Baranova;

World champion in the Greco-Roman wrestling A. Yurkevich;

Winner of the USSR Cup in cross-country skiing, the World Cup participant N. Terebova;

Marathon runner, a member of the national teams of the RSFSR and the USSR, the USSR champion among juniors in 1978 E. Okorokova;

COURSES

The Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the TSPU offers a wide range of training areas for bachelors and masters in the field of teacher education, physical culture, and sports. The "Pedagogical education" course allows graduates to work in various educational institutions, the "Physical Culture" course is related to the training of sportsmen, and the “Adapted Physical Education" course allows the graduates to work with the category of people who have various health deviations.

A highly professional pedagogical staff is working at the Faculty. Among them are Doctors of Sciences, professors, some of them having titles of "Honored Worker of Physical Culture", 17 candidates of science. Among the teachers are Honored masters of sports, Masters of sports of international class, Masters of sports of the USSR and Russia, world record-holders. For instance, the teaching staff of the Swimming Department includes Master of sports of international class, World Champion in swimming in fins A.Yu. Vyazigin — Ph.D., associate professor of the Swimming Department; Twice Master of Sports of the USSR in underwater sport and officer triathlon. Students publish their own student newspaper called "Sports chronicle".

The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics is one of the oldest faculties of the Pedagogical University. For more than 80 years of history, the faculty has trained more than seven thousand specialists who work in schools, universities, bodies of education and are engaged in science and politics.

There are unique scientific schools at our faculty that carry out scientific research at the world level in various fields. The most famous of them are:

Science school of theoretical and mathematical physics, headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Professor I. L. Buchbinder, that since 2003 has been repeatedly receiving support from the Russian President’s Grant Council as the Russian leading scientific institution;

Science school on the methodology of math teaching "Mathematics. Psychology. Intellect" under the guidance of the doctor of pedagogical sciences, Professor E. G. Gelfman. Within the framework of this school, a new direction in the method of teaching had developed, based on psychological patterns of students' intellectual activity.

The faculty closely cooperates with other structural divisions of the university. Students and teachers of the faculty have a unique opportunity to form and improve their professional skills in the Center for Additional Physics and Mathematics and Science Education, which opened in 2011 on the initiative of the TSPU Rector V. V. Obukhov. The Center's tasks include the promotion of the professional growth of teachers; disclosure of intellectual potential of children; popularization of physical and mathematical and natural sciences; improving children’s results in state examinations, competitions; assistance in the social and professional self-determination of students.

One of the modern directions that are being developed at the faculty is educational robotics. In the Children's Center for Educational Robotics at the faculty students together with children are engaged in scientific and technical creativity, apply their knowledge gained during the educational robotics courses.

The faculty has been actively establishing connections with foreign universities: Germany (Leipzig University, Leibniz University of Hannover, Humboldt University of Berlin); Spain (University of Barcelona, ​​Zaragoza University); Brazil (University of São Paulo, Federal University of Juice de Fora); Japan (Hiroshima University, Kyoto University); the USA (Universities of North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Baltimore, Oklahoma); Norway (University of Trondheim); Italy (University of Rome and University of Padua); France (Ecole Polytechnic, Paris), etc.

Academic exchange activities have also been actively developing. Our students participate in academic internships in Japan, Kazakhstan, Poland, Mongolia.

However, student life is not only lectures, laboratory classes, seminars, but also contests, festivals, sports competitions. Our students have the opportunity to discover and develop their abilities and talents by engaging in choreography, floristry, in the visual and theatrical studios.

In order to provide students with professional guidance, the faculty organizes meetings with the leading scientists and teachers of Russia and abroad. Vladimir Putin awarded the title of Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation to Anna Milovanova, senior teacher of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports Disciplines of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University.

Anna Vasilievna has been working in the field of physical culture and sports for almost half a century, of which she has been raising athletes in the Tomsk children's and youth sports school №1 for almost 20 years. At the "Amber" skiing resort, the second stage of the "University Cup" sports event was held. Teams of six city universities took part in it, the TSPU took the second place.
