The first open day has took place in the Tomsk State Pedagogical University. On the threshold of the Teacher’s day school students Tomsk and Tomsk region as well as graduated of the University along with the local authorities and representatives of educational organizations have gathered at the TSPU’s assembly hall.

The future students have received good advice about how important is to pick a profession that would fit one’s wish, opportunities and needs. And the former students of the TSPU have told about the teaching trades and revealed how the university had helped them to achieve such a high skill in their profession. Teachers have mentioned the opportunities that university gives to its students: trainings abroad, special events that develop professional skills (e.g. «Pedagogical debut»). They also have paid special attention to the high social status of the TSPU graduates in professional society: «The City authorities value TSPU graduates because they have received an excellent classic education and know their methodology perfectly – said Olga Vladimirovna Oboyanzeva, the graduate of the faculty of elementary education. – man can’t enjoy every single position, but teacher’s position is an exception». Former students have shared some stories with the applicants: about working in rural schools and creativity that should be put in every lesson. Irina Borisovna Grabcevich, the head of the education department of the Tomsk region, made some points about the support of the young teachers and challenges of the work «It is not an easy work – rather it is a great duty to educate ad up bring children. It is exactly such kind of thing that they will teach you in the TSPU».

 During the meeting applicants have found out that:

Schoolchildren were surprised when they have been told about the opportunity to become participants of the TSPU events, which are carried especially to help the children to join the university in advance. After the solemn part, the applicants went to the faculty meetings, where they talked with the deans and activists of the selected faculties, asked questions and received the most detailed answers.

On the last weekend Activists of the TSPU Centre for patriotic education had participated in the organization of the holiday of autumnal equinox “Oseniny” that took place in the First museum of Slavic mythology. Students of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University had offered various workshops to the participants of the events. Visitors could learn how to make a beautiful decoration from ashberries and how to prepare cabbage salting. They could also taste delicious and healthy non-yeasted bread and learn how to properly stock pinecones and witness a threshing and milling worshop.

"In former times they called two weeks of rest after the end of agricultural work as “Oseniny”. Hay was in the haystacks, the bread was harvested, the vaults were bursting with the abundance of vegetables ... In gratitude for these gifts our ancestors-farmers honored Mother Earth – note the employees of the First Museum of Slavic Mythology. – The central day of Autumn is the day of the autumnal equinox (September 22) - one of the main sunny holidays in the Slavic calendar. After that, "the day runs away like a horse" like out our ancestors said. From this day, the “thrashing” began - in the mornings, at the fire, bread was threshed." 

First year students of «Tourism» direction of the faculty of economics and management and their teachers have visited the exhibition of nanotechnologies and technical objects within the framework of «Museum studies» module of Tourism program.

The exhibition takes place at Tomsk State University within the framework of the seventh international scientific and practical conference «Topical problems of radio physics». During the event students have learnt much about the exhibits and principles of their operation.

The fourth “Space lesson” took place on 20th of September in studio of Tomsk public TV company with support from the TSPU specialists.

This time invited guests, as well as the main participants of the project - schoolchildren of the Tomsk region, the city of Korolev, Moscow region, pupils of the Educational Center for Gifted Children "Sirius" (Sochi), as well as the winners of the All-Russian Youth Competition of Scientific and Technical Works "Youth Orbit" – have discussed the "Smart Materials for Space".

During the lesson there was a live laboratory experiment, and teachers of the Tomsk state pedagogical together with scientists of the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials of Tomsk State Polytechnic university helped school students to figure it out.

The experts were invited to answer the questions from school students - twice Hero of the Soviet Union - Pilot-Cosmonaut No. 57, Flight Director of the ISS Vladimir Solovyov; Adviser to the General Director of the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Honored Designer of the Russian Federation Alexander Chernyavsky and outstanding Russian scientist in the field of catalysis and chemical methods of energy conversion, winner of the Global Energy Prize, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Parmon.

According to the tradition the “Space lesson” ended with a traditional communication session with the Russian section of the International Space Station.

During the live dialogue with schoolchildren, cosmonauts Sergei Ryazansky and Alexander Misurkin discussed the possibilities of using "smart" materials in space, and also answered a number of questions. The students were interested in the materials the ISS was made of, whether cosmonauts are participating in the "Test" experiment, how is the ISS hull checked for strength and for malfunctions. The children also asked about their possible future career in the space industry. They talked with cosmonauts and about creativity, hoping that they will: "Take a picture of Tomsk from space!"

The faculty of art and culture together with the faculty if history and philology of the Tomsk state pedagogical university have realized a “Cozy project”.

This time the future teachers and artists used one of the porches of Tomsk buildings as their canvas. The house’s residents, kids and adults took part in the decoration of their porch and expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the projects hoping to participate in such events in the future.

“While rest of the city is preparing to the firsts low temperatures, this porch of the multistoried building was decorated with lively paintings” – said the organizers of the “Cozy house” projects – Summer is a wonderful time of bright colors and light and we want tom make it last longer!”

Legostin Sergey Alfredovich, associate professor of the medical-biological subjects of the faculty of all-university subjects of the TSPU has participated in the All-Russian contest for people with orthopedic injuries and was awarded with the medal. Sport competition took place from 5 to 9 of September in Yevpatoriya (Republic of Crimea). Paralympic sportsmen of the TSPU under the guidance of Sergey Alfredovich regularly win in competitions. In the last festival Legostin shown an amazing results in 100 meters run in Т 42-44 class.

Last Friday, many guests gathered in the assembly hall of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University: representatives of city and regional administrations, rectors of Tomsk universities, staff, teachers and students of the TSPU came to participate in the anniversary of the leading pedagogical university of the country. 

In the evening, a gala concert with live music was held in the Teacher's Park of the TSPU. Students had fun and danced, there were contests with valuable gifts and photosession for everyone. The rector of the TSPU V.V. Obukhov had awarded the most active students with insignia. A special surprise of the evening was a festive cake with the image of the university and all of the faculties of TSPU. Everyone was able to blow out an improvised candle, make a wish and taste a piece with the thought: "TSPU. Everything starts here ... "

Specialists of the Center for additional physical and mathematical education of TSPU invite school and university students as well as teachers and everyone who is interested in astrology to the open lection by Ugolnikov Oleg Stanislavovich “Eclipse of the Sun and the Moon”

Ugolnikov Oleg Stanislavovich is a famous popularizer of astronomy, chairman of the Central Subject-Methodological Commission and jury of the All-Russian Astronomy Olympiad for Schoolchildren, Chairman of the Subject Commission of the Moscow City Astronomical Olympiad, Senior Fellow of the Federal Space Research Institute "Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences", Candidate of physical and mathematical sciences.

Lecture will take place on 28 of September 2017 at 19-00.

On the 8th of September 2017 Tomsk State Pedagogical University – the oldest pedagogical University of Siberia and the leader of pedagogical education in Russia – had marked its 115 anniversary.

Historical background

Tomsk state pedagogical university was designed as Teacher institute on the first of July 1902 by highest order of emperor Nikolay II and it was opened in September in the same year. The first beyond the Urals and the tenth on the territory of Russian Empire the Teacher institute was a real pride of West Siberian educational district. The famous Russian writer A. M. Volkov who graduate from the institute in 1910 recalled that Tomsk teacher institute was a «true oasis as compared to the dullness and conservatism» that were common in the educational institutions over that period.

At the beginning the institute was intended only for men but as the result of the reform conducted by the Russian Provisional Government in the June 1917 13 women were included in the list of the institute’s students. The Institute acquired a new status, the three new branches were formed in its structure: the historical-philological, physical-mathematical and natural-geographical.

In the prewar years, the institute had a solid highly qualified teaching staff, consisted of more than 30 professors, which had a great influence on strengthening the scientific potential of the university.

During the Great Patriotic War hundreds of employees and students were called up for military service or went to the front as volunteers. Almost a hundred of them died a hero's death on the battlefields. Graduate of the Institute Kalashnikov A.P. was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

During the restoration of the national economy, the Tomsk State Pedagogical Institute also had been developing: the number of faculties and specialties was expanded, new educational buildings and hostels, a suburban sports base, and a reading room were built.

By the 1940s the formation of a well-known scientific linguistic school had begun in the university, and in the 1970s - the international scientific school of theoretical physicists had been organized. Active research activities of the Institute's staff, foreign contacts with scientific institutions and universities of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, France, Hungary, Poland, Japan, etc. had widen the international and Russian authority of the Tomsk State Pedagogical Institute.

June 26, 1995 the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, considered the scientific potential of the educational institution and the high quality of specialist training, has given the Tomsk Pedagogical Institution a status of the university.

At the present time, the TSPU carries out multilevel vocational training in 14 specialties and directions. The structure of the university includes 11 faculties, 2 scientific research institutes, a scientific library, and a publishing house. The University has ten educational buildings, including a sports and fitness center, a swimming pool, a stadium, a countryside practice base, an agricultural and biological station , several modern student hostels.

Tomsk State Pedagogical University in oriented on needs of the education system of the region. Several successful projects are being implemented: "City summer" and "Leader's school" projects give students an opportunity to work with children during vacation time; business incubator of social orientation; several projects of career guidance work. In the university structure there are the Center for Additional Physical and Mathematical Education and the Children's Center for Educational Robotics, oriented to work with talented children.

The university conducts research in 25 main scientific areas. Three journals of the TSPU - "Bulletin of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University"; "Tomsk Journal of Linguistic and Anthropological Research"; "Scientific and educational review" - the first among the Tomsk scientific publications were included in the list of scientific journals compiled by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles.

According to the effectiveness of scientific activity, Tomsk State Pedagogical University is the leader among the pedagogical universities of the Russian Federation, in particular, regarding the citing of scientific publications in the international databases Scopus and Web of Science.

According to the rating agencies of Interfax, Expert-RA, the ARES, TSPU is included in the list of top hundred best universities in Russia. According to the national rating of universities, which was conducted by the Interfax agency, it ranks first among pedagogical universities and the fiftieth place among the all universities in Russia.

According to the Webometrics rating, TSPU ranks 24th among all Russian universities and the first among pedagogical universities in Russia.

The number of student academic exchanges in the format of the Bologna Process with the Wroclaw University (Poland), the University of Palacky in Olomouc (Czech Republic), the University of Bristol (Great Britain), the University of Ochanomizu and Hiroshima University (Japan), Mudanjiang and Hubei Universities (China) .

During its history that now lasts more than a century Tomsk Pedagogical has trained about 60,000 specialists in science, education and culture. We are proud of our graduates, among them famous "storyteller of the XX century" A. Volkov, folk teacher B. Vershinin, vice president of the Russian Academy of Education I.
