The team of the "Youth of the All-Russian National Front" of the Tomsk region, which included a student of the faculty of preschool and primary education of the TSPU Angelina Kuprits, participated in the All-Russian youth forum "Borderline 2020". The annual event brings together the strongest activists of the All-Russian movement "Youth of the All-Russian National Front" who are eager to improve the world around them with their own hands and work for the benefit of their cities.

In the Kaluga Region, during one week, the participants went through a real school of survival: field conditions, daily sports, cold water - these and other difficulties stood in the way of each team of the forum, but this did not prevent the guys from mastering skills from organizing major federal events to forming quick reaction teams in the zones of the post-disaster recovery.

“This is a team-building forum that reveals all your inner fears, emotions, opportunities. You step out of your comfort zone, put your goal and your team first, and a rich program helps you with this. At the forum, you understand that you are part of one big team that changes the life of people and the country for the better”, — says Angelina.

In addition to the tests, speakers of the federal level - public figures, politicians, journalists, TV presenters, famous athletes and artists presented useful lectures for the participants. Each activist received knowledge of strategic management and new teamwork experience.

The forum's motto: “To be, rather than to seem"”. This is exactly what Borderline teaches: to be real, to help others, to develop oneself and one's region. After completing the program, the participants return charged, completely confident in themselves, motivated to make the world around them a better place. As a result of the forum, the participants received certificates of volunteer firefighters, strengthened their teamwork skills, and also found new friends from different regions of the country and knowledge that will definitely be useful to them in their future activities.

The unique peat museum of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University was opened 10 years ago. The museum approached its anniversary with all seriousness: today the museum's fund contains unique exhibits and materials about the origin of peat, the possibilities of its use in agriculture, the energy industry and medicine.

In the the Peat Museum of the TSPU visitors can get acquainted with the history of studies of swamps in Western Siberia, descriptions of expeditions undertaken by scientists and students of the Tomsk Pedagogical University, learn about the peat resources of Siberia and the Vasyugan Swamp and the flora and fauna of swamps. The specialists of the museum study swamp ecosystems of Western Siberia and Gorny Altai, their properties and functioning.

A large section of the museum's expositions is dedicated to the Scientific School "Swamps and Biosphere" of еру TSPU, which was awarded a grant from the President of the Russian Federation. The work of young scientists at the Scientific School is aimed at reviving the peat industry.

The guests of the museum can watch films: "Animal world of the swamp", "Swamp Pharmacy", "Artists about swamps", "Swamp plants", "Expeditions to swamps", "Drainage and extraction of peat for fuel". Interesting excursions will surprise visitors of all ages: "Swamps and the Great Patriotic War", "Myths about swamps in a modern image", "Frog Princess", "Peat and oil and what unites them" and many others.

The museum celebrated its anniversary in the company of collegues, having received congratulations from specialists from Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Scientists from the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Poznan, Poland) also took part in the holiday and congratulate Tomsk collegues.

The volunteer team "Point of View" of the TSPU has been actively cooperating with the Children's Charitable Foundation named after Alena Petrova. Our volunteers have participsted in many projects, including "Open Yourself", "Mom's Pies" and the "Touch" program, the work on which started again this academic year.

Within the scope of the "Touch" project, the TSPU volunteers visit the foundation once a week to provide pupils with an interesting and useful activities, relieve the psychological stress of children: they conduct educational games for them, read fairy tales, and make craftwork together.

More than three hundred families with gravely ill children live in the Tomsk region. Caring for a special kids requires a huge amount of resources that are not easy to recover. The purpose of the "Touch" project is psychological and emotional assistance to parents of seriously ill children. While parents are working with specialists, the volunteers from the TSPU's "Point of View" detachment and a psychologist are working with their children. The activist Anastasia Pavlyuchenko told about her experience in this project:

“Volunteers organize workshops, help children to complete tasks. But the main activity is games. Most often, it turns out that one child gets one volunteer companion. Fortunately, there are countless toys in the Center, so children won't get bored and wander around”.

Work in the fund requires absolute dedication from volunteers, however, the students themselves note that for them this work is a kind of way to refresh and "relieve their feelings." In addition, cooperation with the Foundation helps the members of the "Point of View" accumulate the necessary experience for further fruitful work with the children that require palliative assistance.

The traditional August forum "August.PRO: a matrix of pedagogical changes" is held in Tomsk. Participants include teachers and university professors, school principals, representatives of regional education authorities and the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Education. The TSPU also joined the discussion of the forum's issues, and the key speakers from the Pedagogical Center were the rector Makarenko and Vice-Rector for Development Smyshlyaeva. The changes in the field of education, new challenges of the upcoming academic year — are main topics of the forum. Among the themes proposed for discussion are "Modern school", "Teacher of the future", "Digital educational environment", "Support for families with children", "Success of every child", "Young professionals".

The experience of Tomsk State Pedagogical University - one of the leading pedagogical universities in Russia, whose graduates for 118 years have been working in schools, kindergartens, institutions of secondary vocational and additional education in our country and abroad - is demanded by scientists and practitioners in the field of education and will be handed over to colleagues in the framework of the "August.PRO".

Due to the restrictions imposed in Tomsk, the forum was moved to the digital platform of the Moscow International Educational Salon. However, as the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov noted in his address to the participants of the forum, this form of work of teachers only strengthened everyone's confidence in the importance of school and teacher's work: “We began to look at many questions differently. This is confirmed by the data on admission to pedagogical universities — the demand in pedagogical profession is rising".

It is widely known in Russia and far beyond its borders that the Tomsk State Pedagogical University trains the strongest specialists in the field of education. Maxim Ovsyannikov, a third-year student of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the TSPU is a good example of this approach. The future physical education teacher regularly works on the development of his physical qualities: the student attends training in mixed martial arts, he is also a member of the Tomsk region team in universal fight, and in addition — the champion of the Tomsk region in army hand-to-hand combat.

Each year the Tomsk State Pedagogical University attracts many talented applicants. This year among them are the European Champions in curling with hearing impairments and the winner of the Interuniversity Olympiad in Pedagogy “First Success”.

When young people choose the place of study they take various criteria into account. And most of their requirements are found in the TSPU. Thus, Roman Serebrennikov, a member of the team of winners of the II European Championship in Deaflympics Curling, notes that the TSPU has all conditions for teaching hearing impaired people, which prompted the athlete to make a choice in favor of our university: “I live in Tomsk, I work and train here, I need a sports education. TSPU has a rather successful experience in teaching students with hearing impairments, which is why I chose this university”.

Oleg Khoroshkov, Roman's sports colleague, paid more attention to the availability of a suitable faculty and budgetary places: “In TSPU there is a faculty I need with budgetary places. Having received this education, in the future I will have the opportunity to become a physical education teacher or trainer".

The sports schedule of curlers is quite tight, because it involves daily training and trips to competitions, but young people are not afraid of the difficulties in combining study and sports: guys are sure that they can do everything, because big sport has brought up willpower in them. The TSPU diploma is a necessity for future professional development for the European Curling Champions , but Ulyana Novak, a graduate of the 29th gymnasium, winner of the "First Success" Interuniversity Olympiad in Pedagogy, study in the TSPU is a chance to continue her path in the pedagogical sphere. At school she began to think about her future profession, and her choice fell on teaching. Ulyana has long been an active participant in thematic competitions and olympiads, which gave her rich experience and new knowledge about pedagogy. Among other things, for several years Ulyana has been participated in the project of TSPU "Open pedagogical class". Thanks to it she realizerd more clearly that she wants to dedicate her life to teaching. “TSPU attracted me for several reasons. First of all, I relied on the quality of education and employment prospects, as well as the possibilities of student life, participation in various competitions, events and projects".

Ulyana is sure that during her studies at the TSPU she will become a competent teacher with high qualifications and invaluable experience. And in addition to development in the professional sphere, he will be able to realize herself and achieve great success in various fields, becoming a bright representative of the student unit of the university. She learned about the wide possibilities of student life long before admission thanks to the participation in many events: Open Day, autumn and spring sessions of the Open pedagogical class etc. “At TSPU, I would like to supervise one of the scientific or creative directions. It would also be interesting to try exchange training in other countries”, — Ulyana shares her plans.

According to the Nature Index Ranking, which is based on scientometric data on research publications in leading world scientific journals, the Tomsk State Pedagogical University takes 16th place in the global Nature Index Ranking - Physical Sciences among the leading universities in Russia and the first — among pedagogical ones.

The publications by the TSPU scientists in top world journals is an important component of the university's image. In the period from May 2019 to April 2020, the famous theoretical physicists of the TSPU S.D. Odintsov, I.L. Buchbinder, P.M. Lavrov, I.L. Shapiro, S. Capaziello have published articles in the following top-rated world journals: Physical Review Letters, European Physical Journal C, Journal of High Energy Physics.

The Department of Youth Policy, Physical Culture and Sports of the Tomsk Region has summed up the results of the regional competition "Sports Elite". Among the winners of the competition are students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the TSPU.

The "Sports Elite" competition has been held in the Tomsk region since 1993 and is aimed at promoting the development of sports achievments. In 2020, the competition had picked 44 best athletes and coaches, as well as one national team, who achieved high results and made a significant contribution to the development of physical culture and sports in the region from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

The sports achivements of the students of the TSPU were highly appreciated by the Tomk region. There are international master of sports in sambo, silver medalist of the European Championship and winner of the Russian Championship Valeria Anisimova and master of sports in judo, champion of the European championship Alexandra Askarova. The athletes became winners in the nominations "Best Athlete in Non-Olympic Sports" and "Olympic Hope", respectively.

Besides, graduates of the TSPU Ilya Afonin and Turgai Mammadov (kickboxing) were honored with the nomination "Best Athlete in Non-Olympic Sports". The nomination "The best athlete in adaptive sports" was presented to the graduates of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sportsof Svetlana Orlova and Vladimir Ulyanov (curling). Among the "Best trainers" are TSPU graduates Kirill Bazaev (kickboxing) and Konstantin Sherstobitov (curling).

The winners of the competition also included applicants to theTSPU 2020, European Curling Champions among athletes with hearing impairments Oleg Khoroshkov, Andrey Anischenko and Roman Serebrennikov. The guys were included in the nomination "Best Athlete in Adaptive Sports"

In total, over 80 applications were submitted for the competition in 2020. The commission picked the winners in the nominations: "Best Athlete in Olympic Sports", "Olympic Hope", "Best Athlete in Non-Olympic Sports", "Sports Hope", "Best Sports Team", "Best Coach" and others.

For the first time the Tomsk State Pedagogical University entered the University Ranking by Academic Performance ( URAP).

In 2019-2020 Russia is represented in URAP by 33 universities. TSPU is the only Russian pedagogical university among national research, federal and other universities included in the published part of the rating.
