The American media company U.S. News World Report has published an updated Best Global Universities ranking. The Physics section of the ranking includes 750 of the world's strongest universities and 20 Russian universities. The Tomsk State Pedagogical University is the only pedagogical university included in the top 20 Russian universities.
Such rankings are based on the assessment of academic research activities in specific subject areas. They use various indicators, including the number of publications and citations, as well as indicators of global and regional reputation in the subject area in question. In compiling this year's rankings, articles published between 2015 and 2019 were analyzed. The bibliometric indicators are based on data from the Web of Science database.
The Best Global Universities for Physics ranking includes 750 of the world's strongest universities, including 20 Russian universities. In terms of the indicator "Physics international collaboration - relative to country" the TSPU is one of the top 125 universities in the world, in terms of the indicator "Physics regional research reputation" it is one of the top 250 universities in the world (124 and 242 place respectively). Among 20 Russian universities in Physics, the TSPU is the only pedagogical university.
"Each subject ranking is compiled according to a specific methodology, but the single principle is the analysis of scientific research. A minimum threshold is established regarding the number of articles for ranking universities, as well as the number of educational institutions that will be included in the rating and its published part, — says Vadim Yurievich Zyubanov, head of the Department of International Cooperation at the TSPU. — This is not the first year when the TSPU has been included in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Subject Rankings in Physics. According to a number of indicators, our university enters the top lists of world universities. This once again confirms that the TSPU employs world-renowned scientists".

VICTORIES OF A MASTER'S STUDENT AT THE REGIONAL ART FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Championship of the Tomsk region in art fencing was held. Daniil Vasilyuk, a master's student of psychology and special education at Tomsk State Pedagogical University, won and took prizes in two categories.
Art fencing is a complex of sports fencing disciplines. Each performance is a full-fledged mini-performance, in which the main place is occupied by duels or exercises with weapons. One of the art fencing disciplines is lightsaber fighting- fencing with lightsabers. Daniel performed in this category.
"This autumn I corrected some lack of momentum at the beginning by adding a new fencing pattern. The main problem was making it up: I didn't like every sketch that came to mind, but in one of my workouts I added full spectrum of new elements", — said the athlete.
The young man also performed in the "Duo Free Style" discipline with the "Game over" number, to which the fencer devoted the most time and effort. In Tomsk fencing studio "Saberia" Daniel worked on the performance with his coach - Victor Victorovich Lobanov board member of Tomsk Region Fencing Federation, as well as with his teammate Evgeny Bulatov, coach of Children and Youth Sports School № 16, student of Physical Education Faculty of the Tomsk State University.
"The work on the number began with an initial sketch of the plot. Initially, a dramatic and gloomy plot based on horror movies with space themes was planned, but, unfortunately, at the stage of staging, it became clear that the plot was too overloaded and almost at the last moment was completely reworked. The new one, however, became a comedy, with swordsmen as characters from a video game in the fighting game genre. The first sketches of the fight did not coincide with our general expectations from the combat drawing, the insight came later, the emphasis was placed on the dynamics", — said Daniel.
Daniel and Evgeny assembled special shortened versions of swords to practice in the apartment without damaging the interior. The effort was not in vain: the prize went to the athletes.
"This tournament was very important for me because I got the idea of how to combine high dynamics and complicated fencing elements in this very performance. I want to thank our coach Viktor Viktorovich for his attention to our mistakes and Evgeny for his help and support in our work on the number", — said the athlete.

"It is necessary to improve the quality of teacher education, the prestige of the profession of the teacher".
During the round table a draft concept of teacher training for the education system for the period up to 2030 was presented, the main objectives of which are:
- increasing the role of the teacher - a key figure in the process of ensuring the quality of education;

- continuity and succession of professional development of pedagogical staff.
At the round table, experts also discussed models of psychological support of teacher education in Russia, noted the importance of educational work in the preparation of teachers to meet the new requirements for the classroom teacher, working with parents, etc.
The issues of the organization of educational activities are also fundamental in the work with future teachers — students of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University. Today, with the financial support of the Russian Ministry of Education, the university is building the Technopark of universal pedagogical competencies, which in 2022 will provide students, young scientists, and teachers with a new space for the organization of project activities in the framework of educational, educational and research work.
As a result of the discussion, draft recommendations were developed. These recommendations will increase the prestige of the teaching profession and the level of education in Russia and, as a consequence, attract young people to the teaching profession.

PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION BETWEEN RUSSIA AND GERMANY
The Ural Federal University hosted a conference of graduates of German educational programs. Vladimir Alekseevich Melnikov, Director of the International Information Center of the TSPU, came to Yekaterinburg to discuss current issues of scientific cooperation between Russia and Germany.
The event was organized to mark the Year of Germany in Russia at the initiative of the German Embassy in Moscow and the Consulate General of Germany in Yekaterinburg. The event was attended by 160 graduates of German educational programs both in-person and online. Géza Andreas von Geyr, German ambassador to Russia, opened the event with a discussion on promising avenues for cooperation between the two countries:
"Climate protection issues will play a crucial role. Cooperation will also develop in related areas, as well as in infrastructure policy, the social sphere, and the humanities. These are the areas that will unite Russia and Germany in the scientific sphere".
Universities of Germany are longtime partners of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University in the organization of academic exchanges of students and teachers and joint scientific events. In order to understand the current situation and prospects in the field of educational interaction between the two countries, as well as to establish new contacts, a representative of the TSPU joined the conference in person. The Tomsk State Pedagogical University improved its position in the international multidimensional ranking of universities "U-Multirank", which is carried out by the European Center for Higher Education Development together with the German Research Center of Higher Education.
According to the results of this year, the TSPU took 9th place out of 46 Russian universities. Among the pedagogical universities in the country, the TSPU remains the 1st. The high indicators of the university are noted in three of the five areas of the rating:
- educational (in terms of the number of master's students and the quality of master's programs);
- international (joint international publications);
- regional (participation in the regional development);
- international (joint international publications);<
- regional (participation in the regional development).
U-Multirank" is not a traditional ranking, where universities are ranked in a summary table, — said Vadim Yurievich Zyubanov, head of the Department of International Cooperation of the TPSU. — This is a system of multidimensional evaluation, which provides full transparency of universities. It allows us not only to evaluate the development of the university as a whole, but also makes it possible to make a selection according to specific indicators and areas. Another difference of "U-Multirank" from the classical ratings is student surveys, which are conducted anonymously among the students and allow them to express their opinions on more than 50 positions.
In addition, the Tomsk State Pedagogical University entered the Global Top 25, becoming the best in two categories: "Regional joint publications" and "Collaboration index".

20th anniversary of "STARTUS", FESTIVAL OF SPORTS, CREATIVITY AND TOURISM
The most large-scale festival of sports, creativity, and tourism, which every year unites faculties and institutes of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University — Festival "Startus" - takes place on September 24-26. The first season of the project took place 20 years ago, since then "Startus" remains a favorite event for students.
The year 2021 is unique for "Startus" not only because of the anniversary, but also because of the changes in the structure of the teams: not only sophomores came to the festival, but also third-year students, who were deprived of the long-awaited event last year by the pandemic. In addition, the TSPU alumni, activists who helped with the festival in different years, also came to pass all the tests.
On the first day, the students decorated their rooms with the symbols of their teams and then met at the grand opening of the festival. Welcoming remarks were made by Dmitry Borisovich Nasonov, vice-rector for social and educational work, and Natalia Mikhailovna Kosovskikh, director of the Center for Educational Work and Youth Policy of the TSPU:
"Startus" is built around big and small stories: I became acquainted with this festival in 2009, when I was a student of the Faculty of Psychology, Public Relations and Advertising at the TSPU. Even back then, Startus was a huge event not only for the teams that were going to represent the faculty but also for the entire faculty. Years later, nothing has changed."
Experienced festival participants addressed the newcomers:
"Startus gives everyone who has gone to it a valuable experience and the fondest memories. The festival becomes the starting point for your entire student life: this is where everything starts in earnest. Even after so many years, we remain the true friends we once became at the festival. So carry the stamp "Was at Startus" proudly", — the former director of the TSPU TV Maxim Tynyanov.
"A teacher is the most unpredictable profession: in our work we have to be ready for anything, keeping our composure. Therefore, the skill of stress resistance and the ability to think critically in an emergency situation — are especially valuable for future teachers", — says Karina Pendiak, the organizer of "Startus".
"We realized that all our efforts in preparation for the festival were not in vain: we have an unusual concept, talking about our faculty, interesting costumes, cool business card. Since we are historians and philologists, we decided to be 'Guardians of Time', because it is our future profession — to preserve the true historical knowledge and pass it on", — said the captain of the team of tha Faculty of Hiistory and Philology Elvira Kokorina.

TSPU BASKETBALL PLAYERS ARE THE BEST IN TOMSK REGION
At the Tomsk State Pedagogical University's Sport and Health Complex, the regional stage of the Association of student basketball (ASB) 3x3 championship was held. The TSPU's women's basketball team outplayed its opponents to become the best in Tomsk Oblast.
This tournament is the only street basketball competition among students in Russia. In this way, the ASB 3x3 basketball helps to form the street culture of students. The difference in street basketball is the number of players — teams consist of three players and one substitute. Usually, the tournament is held on street courts, responding to the specifics of the sport, but the decision was made to hold the event at the TSPU's sports complex.
The students of the Faculty of physical culture and sports of the TSPU Ermakova Alevtina, Selivanova Elizaveta, Alina Cherkashina, and Alena Nikitina competed with the female teams, some of which were especially tough: our students lost to the girls from the Siberian State Medical University, and the Tomsk State University's team took the lead by one point. However, this did not affect the final result: thanks to victories in other games the TSPU team took first place and entered the All-Russian level.
Before the match the girls had only one goal: to enjoy the game and the atmosphere of the regional competition:
"We didn't prepare specially for this competition, we were training for the performance in the main competitions. But then we heard about the ASB 3x3 and decided to play for fun", — said Elizaveta Selivanova.
Girls were calm and confident in their game, but sometimes there were emergency situations, for example, the game with the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics team, where just one player exceeded our athletes in strength. But the future teachers coped with it easily. A good game and the right attitude helped the students to be the best in Tomsk Oblast!
Now girls are waiting for the All-Russian final in Moscow, where they will meet with teams from other regions of the country and will show a beautiful Tomsk basketball. And the winner of the ASB Super Final 3x3 will get the chance to represent Russia in the major international competitions among students.

Four days at the Black Sea coast were not only fun but also productive: meetings with famous cultural and artistic figures inspired the participants from the TSPU to conquer new heights and implement new projects within the university, allowing the future teachers to reveal their creative potential.

TSPU RECTOR IS APPOINTED AS VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE TEACHERS' EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
On September 6-7, Khabarovsk hosted the International Research and Practice Forum "Khabarovsk process: historical significance and contemporary challenges," which was attended by representatives of the teaching community of the whole country. The Forum also included a visiting session of the Association for the Development of Teaching Universities and Institutes (ADTUI). At the session the first steps of the renovation of the Association were taken and the new organization leadership was elected: the rector of the TSPU Andrey Makarenko was appointed as the deputy head of the Association by the decision of its members.
The evening session was attended by Sergey S. Kravtsov, the Russian minister of education, Alexei V. Lubkov, rector of the Moscow State Pedagogical University and president of the ADTUI, heads of pedagogical universities and educational institutions of the country.
In his welcoming speech, A. V. Lubkov made suggestions for rebooting the Association in connection with the need to create a unified educational space and expand the organization through the inclusion of Intermediate vocational education institutions, schools, nonprofit organizations, and representatives of the parent community. In order to expand the areas of activity through a general vote, members of the Association decided to rename it to the Association for the Development of Teacher Education (ADTE).
"The Association is developing quite dynamically, but it is clear that with all the decisions that have been made today in the field of education, we need the development of teacher education in general. Today a new and historic stage for the Association has begun, so the Ministry supports this decision", — S. S. Kravtsov addressed the audience.
Association members voted for a new composition of the organization: Sergey S. Kravtsov, the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, was appointed as the leader of the ADTE. Andrei Nikolaevich Makarenko, Rector of the Russian State Pedagogical University, was elected as one of the Vice-Governors.
More than 100 people — heads of Russian pedagogical universities, representatives of university teaching staff, teachers, and students — took part in the vote. The decision to restart and expand the Association's activities as well as the proposed nominees for the renewed membership was supported unanimously. A broad discussion of working together as part of a new understanding of the ADTE mission awaits the members of the Association.
