NEW MATH FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: TSPU SPECIALIST JOINS THE PROGRAM OF THE "SIRIUS" CENTER

20 teachers from 15 regions of the country passed a competitive selection to participate in the advanced training program "Teaching Mathematics in the Primary School Course" at the Sirius Educational Center in the city of Sochi. A route sheet to the program was awarded to Timur Talgatovich Gazizov, professor, doctor of technical sciences, associate professor of the Tomsk State Pedagogical University.

At the selection stage, candidates submitted personal questionnaires and cover letters, in which they described their professional goals and expectations from the program. The interview with experts was a crucial task. The best of the best went to Sochi for new knowledge and experience.

As part of the six-day program, teachers got acquainted with modern teaching methods of schoolchildren and studied the specifics of the formation of developmental education programs for schoolchildren of 7-11 years old. Four main topics were examined in particular detail: graphs, strategies, motion problems, combinatorics. In addition, after passing the courses, the participants were able to master the programs for preparing students for intellectual competitions of various levels. This program has become unique, since earlier at the Sirius center, courses were aimed at children from graduation classes. Now the teachers have the opportunity to dive into the specifics of the methods that are used in elementary school. The authors of the profile shift were members of the "Twice Two" creative laboratory, who are actively working with junior schoolchildren in Moscow.

As with any educational course, at the end of the program, it was supposed to defend the graduation work. Timur Talgatovich prepared a lesson on the topic "Heads and Legs" for 4 graders, which was later worked out in the course of students of the Institute of Childhood:

«As a result of the experience gained in Sirius, I was able to conduct a lesson for the students of the TSPU's institute of Childhood in the framework of the discipline "Theory of teaching mathematics in elementary school". Special thanks to the management of the Institute: I. A. Drozdetskaya and Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education N.V. Fetisova for cooperation».

With the help of improvised means, Students of the Institute were able to experimentally work out various mathematical exercises. For example, with only a sheet of paper, scissors, and glue, the students created a Mobius strip.

«Using simple mathematical exercises, we managed to conduct a very interesting visual experiment, which we will then show to our students and present them rather complex mathematical material easily and simply. It was very interesting!» — said the student of the group 682 of the Institute of Childhood Patskikh Ekaterina.

Gazizov notes that such courses are very important for the pedagogical staff of the TSPU: the experience of "Sirius" can be applied in various disciplines taught at our university, due to the universal nature of the received methods and forms of education.
