SPEAKING TURKISH: UNIQUE COOPERATION OF THE TSPU AND SIBCABEL
Turkish is the largest language in the Turkic group of the Altai language family. Its phonetic and lexical-grammatical structures are fundamentally different from Russian and other Indo-European languages. Currently, there is no language training in Turkish in Tomsk, so finding a practicing translator with fluency in the city is an almost impossible task. However, specialists from the Institute of Foreign Languages and International Cooperation of the TSPU are always ready to come to the rescue, they speak a wide range of foreign languages: from quite common English and German to the languages of small endangered peoples.
For example, representatives of Sibkabel came with a request to provide translation services from Turkish into Russian: the company works with one of the suppliers of equipment for the cable industry - Aymak Makine Ltd., Turkey, which engineers arrived from Istanbul to Tomsk for commissioning. To implement successful communication for the period of a business trip of foreign specialists (02.25.2021 - 03.04.2021), an interpreter with knowledge of the Turkish language must be present.
Deputy Director, Associate Professor of the Department of Translation and Translation Studies Valeria Mikhailovna Lemskaya was sent to Sibkabel to carry out consecutive interpretation.
“Interpretation in industrial production is a very difficult task, there is a definite challenge: the preparation takes place in the shortest possible time, the subject matter is often very far from the usual discourse. The translator has to apply all his skills", — says the acting director of the Institute Anna Gennadievna Bogdanova.
The visit of Turkish specialists is not only an opportunity for the Tomsk manufacturing sector to develop international cooperation but it is also another opportunity for the TSPU to strengthen its position in the translation services market in Tomsk, including in the provision of translation services from a language rare for Siberia.
