TSPU Joins Discussion on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education

On 26 October 2026, the Association for the Development of Teacher Education (ADTE) held a meeting at VDNKh in Moscow. The main topic on the agenda was the potential and risks of using artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

TSPU was represented by Rector Andrey Makarenko, Deputy Chair of the ADTE Board, and Elena Poleva, Vice-Rector for Research.

In his opening speech, Alexey Lubkov, Chair of the ADTE Board and Rector of Moscow State Pedagogical University, stressed the importance of research in this field. He noted that universities specialising in teacher education under the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation had not yet been sufficiently active in exploring this highly relevant topic, which is closely linked to the country’s key strategic priorities.

Makarenko noted that Tomsk State Pedagogical University is one of the few pedagogical universities implementing two Russian Science Foundation (RSF) projects on the use of AI in education in 2026.

«Competition for RSF grants grows fiercer every year. In these conditions TSPU is implementing two grants focused specifically on researching the use of AI in education», — Poleva commente.

One project, led by Mikhail Chervonny, focuses on higher teacher education. Titled Fundamental Principles for Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Teacher Mentoring: Developing a Theoretical Model and Mechanisms for Personalising Learning Pathways, it explores how AI can be incorporated into mentoring systems. The second project, led by Andrey Glukhov, examines the use of AI in the regional general education system. It is also supported by the Tomsk Region Administration and is titled «A Study of Artificial Intelligence in Educational Environments: Chatbots and Intelligent Agents as Tools for Pedagogical Support».
