From New Learning Spaces to Gratitude for Teachers and Scholars: Teachers' Week at TSPU
Fr om October 3 to 12, Tomsk State Pedagogical University (TSPU) celebrated Teacher’s Week, dedicated to World Teachers’ Day. The event was part of the nationwide «Great Teachers’ Week», supported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
The week began with a festive concert titled «The Warmth of Hearts», organized by the Institute of Childhood and Art Pedagogy. Performances of music and dance set a joyful tone for the week ahead.
Throughout the week, the university's institutes and faculties held events in a variety of formats — from heartfelt greetings to creative workshops. The Faculty of Technology and Economics hosted a hands-on class wh ere participants crafted personalized desk organizers as gifts for their favorite teachers. The Faculty of Psychology and Special Education organized an open lecture «The Teacher’s Heroism During the Great Patriotic War».
Meanwhile, the Institute of Childhood and Art Pedagogy created a «City of Techno-Masters» — a learning space for preschoolers, held at the Quantorium technology park».
The Institute of Physical Culture and Sports brought students together for a sports festival. First-year students fr om different faculties united in teams and participated in friendly competitions, learning the importance of teamwork and the value of maintaining the university’s athletic traditions.
The spirit of unity continued at the annual «Battle of Choirs», wh ere student choirs from across the university competed for a place in the final. The event was organized by the Center for Educational Work and Youth Policy.
On October 7, the new training ground of the Center for Military and Patriotic Education of Youth at the TSPU officially opened. Teams from local universities and colleges, as well as members of the «Post No. 1» patriotic movement, tested the new facility in action.
Teacher’s Week also became a time to honor academic milestones. On October 6, a roundtable discussion titled «The Educational Space of Siberia: Historical Lessons and Future Prospects» marked the 125th anniversary of Professor F.F. Shamakhov’s birth. The event was organized by the Institute for the Development of Teacher Education and the TSPU Scientific Library, with participation from university staff, students, and Tomsk’s teaching community.
From October 9 to 12, the TSPU hosted the 31st International «Dulzon Readings» Conference, celebrating the 125th anniversary of Dr. Andrey Petrovich Dulzon — linguist, ethnographer, archaeologist, and scholar of Siberia’s Indigenous languages and cultures. The conference was co-organized by TSPU’s Institute of Foreign Languages and International Cooperation, the Museum of Nature and Man (Khanty-Mansiysk), the Tomsk Regional Russian-German House, and the Kenyan Institute of Foreign Languages and Professional Studies (Nairobi, Kenya). Researchers from across Russia — including Moscow, Volgograd, Voronezh, Elista, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Gorno-Altaysk, Ulan-Ude, Krasnoyarsk, Surgut, Khanty-Mansiysk, and Yakutsk — took part, alongside participants from Kyrgyzstan, Kenya, and Tanzania. Special guests included representatives of the Indigenous peoples of Tomsk and Krasnoyarsk regions.
The conference concluded with the presentation of a memorial plaque dedicated to A.P. Dulzon on the building of the TSPU Scientific Library.
On October 10, a closing ceremony and concert took place, during which more than 60 university staff and students — including veteran educators — received awards and letters of gratitude for their contributions to science, education, and community life.
